Contemporaneous Evidence for Funding

ReaDI-Watch enables you to continuously build the evidence needed to support and defend your R&D funding, without creating a second documentation job for your technical team. The ReaDI Assistant understands the relevant funding requirements, knows what evidence needs to be captured, and conversationally guides your team to capture testing, results, failures, learning and decisions as the R&D happens, connecting the underlying source material, time and costs into a dated, traceable R&D record. Replace retrospective reconstruction with robust, contemporaneous evidence of what happened, when, why and what was learned — exactly what funders look for.

In partnership with Dave, Gerry & the team, we are continuing to build an excellent, internationally leading Research, Development, and Innovation (RDI) culture in Combilift to further revolutionise the way companies handle and store goods.

R&D Tax Credit Case Study — Precision Engineering

A precision engineering company producing components for automotive, aerospace, and medical sectors was advancing the boundaries of what their processes could achieve — and simultaneously digitising their operations. Both journeys qualified for R&D tax credits. ReaDI structured the claim and filed $90K CAD.

The Situation

This precision engineering company was operating at the frontier of what their equipment and processes could do. Customers in automotive, aerospace, and medical were pushing tolerance requirements, material specifications, and geometric complexity to the edge — and the team was solving problems that had no off-the-shelf answer. In parallel, they were on a journey to digitalise how they operated — capturing process knowledge, building digital workflows, and creating systems that could encode decades of engineering know-how. That R&D was substantial. But the company had never framed it as such. R&D was not bounded by individual customer jobs — cross-project technological advancement was underway, and there was no formal R&D tracking or time and cost data separated from general job costing.

The R&D Structure

Individual jobs were the unit of commercial delivery. But the R&D happened at a different level — process capability being advanced across jobs, and a digital transformation programme encoding hard-won know-how into systems that would outlast any individual order. Tolerances beyond standard machine parameters. Novel tooling strategies developed. Material behaviour under cutting conditions studied. Solutions developed for aerospace applied — with modification and further experimentation — to medical. Decades of process knowledge being encoded into digital workflows and systems. Both journeys qualified.

The Result

$90K CAD claim filed. ReaDI’s interviews surfaced the technological uncertainty in each, mapped the experimental work to R&D tax criteria, and structured a defensible claim that the team hadn’t believed was possible. Time-tracking and job-code tagging introduced to capture R&D effort systematically for FY+1. Process capability R&D and digitalisation both recognised. The infrastructure is now in place to capture all of it as the claim grows year-on-year.

Precision engineering at the frontier of what’s possible?

If your team is pushing process capability beyond standard parameters — or building digital systems to capture decades of engineering knowledge — you’re likely generating significant R&D tax credit eligibility. ReaDI finds it, structures it, and files it.

Book a 30-minute consultation with a ReaDI-Watch expert to explore how to get the most out of your RD&I.

ReaDI is a structured platform, supported by an expert team, that helps R&D-intensive organisations capture, document and fund their Research, Development and Innovation (RD&I) activity. It keeps the work organised, defensible and ready for reporting, funding and decision-making, instead of leaving it scattered across people’s memories, inboxes and spreadsheets.

Both. The platform provides a structured environment, while our team can help define projects, maintain momentum and support reporting where needed. You get a managed system with expert support, as well as access to the software.

No. Many organisations we work with do not have a formal R&D function. The work can sit across engineering, product, operations and quality. ReaDI helps when your team is solving technical problems but cannot easily show what was tried, what worked and why.

RD&I becomes more structured and easier to manage. Projects are framed clearly from the outset, documentation is captured as the work happens and leadership gains better visibility. This reduces the need to reconstruct technical activity at year-end.

The aim is to make capturing your team’s work feel like a natural part of the process, without adding a separate administrative burden. ReaDI works alongside your existing tools and workflows, so engineers do not have to adopt a completely different way of working.
